Marion County Boundary Survey
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department | Marion and Jefferson Counties, Texas
Shine | DCCM completed a Marion County boundary survey to determine the boundary of an original survey and numerous surrounding tracts. Natural and artificial changes had affected the area since the 1800s. Therefore, the project required research beyond the standard record review for a survey.
The team reviewed Texas General Land Office archives, Marion County records, and private survey records. In addition, Shine | DCCM examined historical aerial photography and topographic maps to better understand changes across the project area.
During fieldwork, the team evaluated existing occupation, monumentation, and natural features referenced when the original grants were established. The surveyors then compared this evidence with the available records.
Shine | DCCM prepared a report and plat documenting the boundaries, relevant issues, and topographic features. Nedra Foster Townsend, LSLS, RPLS, served as Project Manager. She also attended meetings with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department personnel and surrounding landowners to explain the boundary determinations.
Overall, the survey combined archival research, historical evidence, and field observations to document the original survey and adjacent tracts.
